Dr. Muiz Banire
For their immense contribution to the Nigerian society, the Sociology Department, University of Lagos, has honoured three alumni of the University. They are former Commissioner of Transportation Lagos State and National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Muiz Adeyemi Banire; leading entrepreneur and strategist, Segun ‘SEGA’ Awosanya, and the Chief Executive Officer, Bukay Travels and Tours, Bunmi Obakoya.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the organising committee of the award, Dare Akinniyi said the award was a token of the students’ body appreciation of the trio’s contribution in their respective fields in the society.
He said, “Dr Muiz Banire is a notable figure in the country and has been a part of the history of Unilag, we also recognised the roles he played in bringing together the biggest political merger in the history of Nigeria.”
Akinniyi stated that unknown to many, the underground role that Awosanya played led to the reinstatement of several hundreds of the sacked Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) workers.
“It is pertinent to honour those who deserves honour. Though Segun Awosanya, does not crave media attention, the role that he played in the peaceful resolution of the sacked NIS workers is worthy of recognition. He has even promised that the case of the yet to be reinstated workers is being looked into,” he added.
In his response to the recognition, Dr. Banire, represented by Mrs. Bunmi Obakoya thanked the organisers for the recognition and promised not to rest on his oars but continue to contribute his quota to the further development of the country.
A representative of Awosanya, Babasola Kuti expressed profound gratitude to the organisers and the disappointment of Awosanya’s absence at the event due to urgent national matters that he was attending to.
He said, “SEGA is sad not to be here tonight, but he sent his goodwill and expressed his gratitude for the recognition. He is also praying for God’s guidance for you all as you step into the real world.”
While Awosanya is an entrepreneur, marketing consultant, broadcast engineer and realtor, Obakoya is the CEO of a leading Travel and Tour company that has been the official travel protocol agency for the Edo State government.
